Luisi named VP of AACSE
Oregon School Employees Association Jr. Past President Bonnie Luisi was appointed vice president of the American Association of Classified School Employees (AACSE) at its meeting in San Antonio, Texas, on Nov. 15-17.
OSEA sent a small delegation to the meeting, including President Tim Stoelb, Vice President Ma’Lena Wirth, Executive Director Steven Araujo and Zone I Director Steven Specht. Specht is an elected delegate to AACSE and Wirth is an alternate delegate.
“Bonnie’s unwavering commitment to OSEA will ensure that our interests continue to be well-represented at the national level,” Stoelb said.
“I am proud to have been selected as vice president of AACSE and look forward to promoting the interests of classified employees nationwide,” said Luisi, who is an elected AACSE delegate.
With Luisi moving up to vice president, Stoelb became the new chair of the AACSE Legislative Committee.
The committee discussed legislative priorities for the 2013 visit to Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C.
Topics covered included:
- Employee liability: Specifically the committee explored liabilities for staffers when dealing with students who have special needs or are acting unruly.
- Employee training: How staff are prepared to handle the myriad of student needs.
- Bullying: Exploring how both students and staff can be bullied physically, verbally and online.
- Nutritional regulations: Examining how much food is thrown away rather than eaten and if hunger-vulnerable students should be allowed to have second helpings.
