Mutschler named 2013 Employee of the Year
Sue Mutschler thought it was odd to see so many cars parked in front of Margaret Scott Elementary School on the night of April 24. This was just a run-of-the-mill work session of the Reynolds School Board, so why all the cars?
Nevertheless, the veteran assistant secretary at Woodland Elementary School didn’t think much of it. She sat down with her fellow Reynolds Chapter 37 officers, did a little texting and waited for the meeting to start.
Then OSEA President Tim Stoelb entered the room to make a surprise announcement – a Reynolds chapter member had been named OSEA’s 2013 Employee of the Year. Stoelb went on to describe the winner, and it took some time for Mutschler to realize that he was describing her.
“Over the course of nearly 24 years, this year’s winner has earned a reputation throughout your district as the ‘go-to-gal’ because she is always there – willing and able to help,” Stoelb said of Mutschler.
Members of her family, who had been hiding out in a side room until the announcement, watched as a tearful, but thankful Mutschler was quickly surrounded by her friends.
Reynolds Chapter 37 President Cindy Dominiak, herself an Employee of the Year honoree two years ago, nominated Mutschler. Dominiak wrote in her nominating letter, “She works diligently and conscientiously every day to ensure that students, parents and teachers alike are cared for and have everything they need for a successful school day.”
Employee of the Year — one of OSEA’s highest honors —is bestowed on one educational employee each year. Nominations are received from throughout Oregon and reviewed by a committee of OSEA’s past presidents. Names and any other identifying information are withheld from the committee when it makes its decision.
Mutschler will attend the Employee of the Year award ceremony and festivities at OSEA Conference 2013, held at the Red Lion on the River in Portland. She will be honored throughout the event and will be presented with the Employee of the Year traveling trophy and plaque during the Saturday night awards banquet on June 29.
