MOSI

Apply today to attend OSEA’s Member Organizing Summer Institute!

OSEA’s organizing department will be conducting the ninth annual Member Organizing Summer Institute (MOSI) in July 2013.  Over the years, many OSEA members have completed MOSI training.  Utilizing their training, MOSI graduates have helped their chapters bargain good contracts, increase chapter membership and involvement in union activities, better communicate with all members, and successfully oppose attempts by school districts to contract out. They have also helped organize new groups into the OSEA family!

Training dates
Training consists of a three-day basic program beginning Friday morning and concluding Sunday afternoon. The 2013 summer institute will be held July 26-28, 2013.

Focus
The focus of MOSI is for trainees to learn the skills needed to assist in a variety of typical chapter campaigns. Such campaigns include contract campaigns, membership recruitment, building employee representative development and chapter building. Our goal is to train members to support chapter executive boards and to serve as an organizing resource. Will your chapter be engaging in any activities such as contract negotiations, membership drives, chapter building, fair share campaigns or other activities where a member trained in organizing can be of help?  If yes, you are encouraged to apply!

Application process
This year, MOSI will be open to the first 20 members who apply by the deadline and meet the selection criteria. Please complete the MOSI application and return it to the OSEA State Office by 5 p.m. on July 1, 2013.

The organizing department will review all applications and make initial selections for the summer institute. After this selection process, an OSEA organizer will contact the chapter president, the selected trainee and the assigned field representative to discuss plans for the MOSI trainee.

Additional information
Participants will be provided lodging, meals and time release, if necessary. Each graduate will receive training certification. If you have any questions, please contact the OSEA State Office at 800/252-6732.
